6 Most Popular Types of Kitchen Layouts

The kitchen is one of the most critical and central areas of your home. It should have the perfect setting for comfort cooking. Whether you want to bake a cake, roast some chicken, or fry some wings, you should be able to rush to the kitchen to whip up some snacks for yourself. The functionality of the kitchen depends entirely on the layout you choose. Depending upon the size of your home, your decor tastes, and your family’s needs, the layout of the kitchen might change.

In this article, we’ve discussed the six most common kitchen layouts found across the world. While apartments feature a set style of kitchen, you can choose one of these modular shapes for the floor plan of your kitchen!

6 types of kitchen plans

1. Island modular kitchen

Island modular kitchen is the most popular choice in open-plan homes. The island, often known as the ‘breakfast bar’, separates the kitchen from the rest of the home. This type of floor plan is excellent if you want to integrate a contemporary layout option into your home. The island is multifunctional. It can be used as an extra counter for space, or it can be used as a dining table. You can view images of kitchen renovations to get a clearer idea about this layout.

2. One wall or straight modular kitchen

One wall or straight modular kitchens are believed to be the most efficient ones. Since the stovetop, the working area, other appliances, and even the sink are in one straight line, you don’t have to move around too much. These types of kitchen layouts are recommended if you have a small home. To increase the efficiency of the one-wall kitchen, most homeowners install cabinets both above and below the counter. The fridge and the sink are placed on one (or opposite) ends while the other appliances and working areas are placed closer together.

3. L-shaped modular kitchen

L-shaped modular kitchen is a versatile option and can be integrated into any home regardless of its size. While this plan does require special planning of the cupboards to ensure all space is used, it can be integrated regardless of your home needs. Most experts recommend using this layout if your kitchen is in the corner of your home. One of the ways to make this floorplan stand out is to build windows above both arms of the L. The view of the backyard or the front yard will make the room brighter and more welcoming.

4. U-shaped modular kitchen

The U-shaped modular kitchen features three walls with countertops, cabinets, and working areas. We recommend using this design if you want to efficiently use up a large space without making the room look cluttered. The biggest advantage of this type of layout is that it provides the most storage space. Cabinet makers in Canada provide excellent options for this type of layout. This is also among the safest kitchen layouts. Unlike other plans, your workflow here is not interrupted.

5. G-shaped modular kitchen

Instead of an island, the extra countertop is connected to a wall, giving the plan a ‘G’ shaped layout. This type of plan is also called a peninsula modular kitchen. This layout is often featured in homes with smaller kitchen areas or studio apartments. This type of plan efficiently uses the limited space without making the room look cluttered.

6. Parallel or Gallery modular kitchen

Parallel modular kitchens are often assumed to be claustrophobic. However, they do not need to be. Parallel modular kitchens are ideal for homes that have longer floor plans. This type efficiently uses the space without compromising on the kitchen workspace. You get two large countertops – one which can be used for appliances and one as a working space.

These are the six types of kitchen layouts. Depending upon the location of your kitchen and the size of your home, you may be able to find the perfect plan. The type of layout you choose will also affect the final renovation cost of your kitchen. However, if you have the right renovation company, you will be able to complete all aspects of the renovation – from removal to installing new appliances – within a budget.
